So, what do we mean by “jazz”? Some people are looking for the sound of a certain instrument, like a piano, saxophone or guitar. Some people are looking for a vocalist singing standards in the style of Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra or Harry Connick, Junior. Some people are looking traditional acoustic jazz or bee-bop in the style of Miles Davis, John Coltraine, Dave Brubeck or Charlie Parker. Maybe you want Latin jazz in the style of Arturo Sandoval, Antonio Jobim or Pancho Sanchez.
Some people are thinking of modern smooth jazz in the style of Dave Koz, David Benoit, Norah Jones or Turning Point (whom we book, by the way.) Some people are thinking of a Dixieland band. Some people are thinking of a Big Band in the style of the Duke Ellington or the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
And some people just want to jive and swing!
